American war for Independence question?
carlos asked:
The War for Independence established an American republic, but it left unanswered questions about the nature of this republic.
1) What political and cultural problems did Americans face in the years immediately after the Revolution?
2) Who tried to address these problems and what solutions did they offer?
3) How successfully did Americans resolve the question of what it meant to be a citizen in this new republic?
Please, help me out with this questions. They are for my American Experience class. Since im not american, it is hard for me to understand the history of the US. Thank you.

One Response to “American war for Independence question?”
The political and cultural problems faced by the fledgling nation can be found in the first form of government. The Articles of Confederation.
The problems with the Articles were addressed by the Continental Congress which resulted in the Constitution of the United States.
I think that your third question is not specific enough. Many of the issues surrounding citizenship in the United States were not resolved until the 20th century. Any resolution of questions of citizenship were only resolved towards white, propertied, male citizens. Check out the Naturalization Act of 1790 to see the exact terms used for what constituted a citizen in the early part of American history.
